The Stig

Car Care and Detailing Advice

My name is Danny and I’m often refered too as “the Web Stig”. This because I spend much of my time locked in an office working on the website for Clean Image. I am seldom seen, I don’t talk, I just type.
Valeting was my first job, working for my father while I was still at school. Although I pursued a career in graphic design for 12 years, I have taken more than a passing interest in cars during that time, even dabbling in a little motorsport.

Clean Image asked me to design a brouchue and leaflets a few years back, and I have been there ever since, designing all the stationary, signs, website and marketing… and occasionally, I even valet a car or two!

As I do the marketing for a valet company, obviously I need to know my stuff, so I have spent a lot of time over the last few years finding out the answers to questions asked by both valeters and their customers, much of this knowledge gets used by our employees or put into articles for the benefit of our customers… and that is how this website came about.

While writing a guide for lease car owners, I was putting together an article on ‘How to wash your car’. I needed a starting point so asked my wife (Anna) how she would go about cleaning our car, just so I would get an idea about how much the average person knows about the task.
Well, she showed me that I couldn’t assume that most people would have a basic idea — she knew absolutely nothing, which made me think that maybe I should teach her and she could write the article!!!

I then grabbed her phone book and called all her friends, I even phoned the wives of the guys at Clean Image and none had a clue. And why should they? It’s not like they teach this stuff at school.

So here we are. I have designed this website so that as Anna learns about how to care for a car, she can pass that knowledge on in her own words. And despite English being her second langauge It should be easier for the average person to understand than if a car geek like myself wrote it.

For fellow car geeks (and even stigs), I will be contributing to the F.A.Q. section of the site.
