What is Dri-Wash/Waterless Detailing?

Car Valeting, Detailing and Car Care Advice       April 17th, 2006     by Danny the web stig

I’m told that these waterless products actually coat dirt and helps prevent scratches while you wash.

But at the end of the day its just a chemical mixture that you can wash a car in instead of water.

Is it any good? Well it pretty much does the job it is supposed to do, so yes!

It is obviously more expensive than water, but if you are a valeter and you haven’t got access to water on site then it will clean a car, although I wouldn’t want to use it to clean a heavily soiled car.

We do have some that we bought in from America, and we use it on occassions when we are very busy and we can’t get another car on the wash bay. So we find it useful.

Does it have any advantage for the customer? None that I can see! So from a consumer’s point of view, don’t be talked into believeing that ‘waterless‘ is any kind of selling point. One advantage it does have that it won’t leave watermarks… but if you are paying a valeter to do the work for you, then this isn’t something you should worry about anyway!

Update:With hosepipe bans in parts of England, it could be useful for consumers, especially as it is available to the general public. Anna will be testing it very soon so watch this space.

  1. Hi,

I run my own mobile car washing business using waterless products and I find that, they are brilliant, especially in confined places like busy car parks. Allso Lack of water means lack of Ice in winter.
