Cleaning your car headlights is what all of us do in our day to day lives. One doesn’t have to be a car lover or anything to keep their car clean, it’s just a basic courtesy that all of us do. The same thing becomes even more considerable when headlights are dirty because dirty headlight covers don’t let as much light pass through as when they’re clean, so other road users will find it harder to see your car on the road. They can also diffuse light, meaning they don’t throw light as far down the road as when they’re clean, making it harder to see hazards in dark conditions.

If you can see the headlight needs cleaning because of dirt and mud, an easy way to remove all this dirt and mud from your headlight is to just wash it off using a cloth and clean water. This will remove all the basic dirt that’s on the cover of the headlight and is actually the cheapest way to get the job done.

However, if your car’s headlights are a bit more of murky, yellowing and cloudy, you’ll need to go for a more thorough process of cleaning the headlights.

Method 1:

Cleaning your car headlights with toothpaste:

Yes, that’s right. Cleaning your car’s headlights could be done as cheaply as cleaning it from toothpaste and a brush. It’s quick, accessible and cheaper than a repair kit. You only need a toothbrush, spray bottle, toothpaste – that features baking soda, if possible – and a cloth.

Here’s how to clean car headlights with toothpaste:

  • Rub toothpaste into the headlight cover using a toothbrush
  • Keep rubbing until you feel and see the headlight getting cleaner
  • Spray warm water onto the headlight and wipe away the toothpaste with a cloth
  • For a deeper clean use a rotary buffer to apply the toothpaste
  • Voila! You should now have more translucent headlight covers

Method 2:

Using a Proper Kit:

This method is beneficial in the sense that it gives a more lasting effect. Also, it can be used on marks on headlights where they are murky, yellowing and cloudy.

There are quite a few products in the market that provide you with all the tools and steps needed to clean your dirty headlights. We have reviewed some of the top products in the market. This article will give a brief review about all of those:
